International Variation in Prostate Cancer Incidence and Mortality Rates
نویسندگان
چکیده
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common cause of cancer and the sixth leading cause of cancer death among men worldwide with an estimated 899 000 new cases and 258 000 new deaths in 2008 [1]. The worldwide PCa burden is expected to grow to 1.7 million new cases and 499 000 new deaths by 2030 simply due to the growth and aging of the global population [1]. The only well-established risk factors for PCa are older age, black race/ethnicity, and a family history of the disease [2]. The wide variation in international PCa incidence rates and trends is in part due to the substantial differences worldwide in the diagnosis of latent cancers through prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing of asymptomatic individuals as well as during prostate surgery. CONTEXT Wide variation exists internationally for prostate cancer (PCa) rates due to differences in detection practices, treatment, and lifestyle and genetic factors. OBJECTIVE We present contemporary variations in PCa incidence and mortality patterns across five continents using the most recent data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION PCa incidence an...
متن کاملGeographic Patterns of Prostate Cancer Mortality and Variations in Access to Medical Care in the United States
Background: Striking geographic variation in prostate cancer death rates have been observed in the United States since at least the 1950s; reasons for these variations are unknown. Here we examine the association between geographic variations in prostate cancer mortality and regional variations in access to medical care, as reflected by the incidence of late-stage disease, prostate-specific ant...

PURPOSE Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men in the world. It is rapidly increasing. This study investigated the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer and the relationship with the Human Development Index (HDI) and its dimensions in Asia in 2012. METHODS The study was conducted based on data from the world data of cancer and the World Bank (including the HDI and its components). The...

متن کاملExploring the spatial patterns of three prevalent cancer latent risk factors in Iran; Using a shared component model
Background and aims: The aim of this study was the modeling of the incidence rates of Colorectal, breast and prostate cancers using a shared component model in order to explore the spatial pattern of their shared risk factors (i.e., obesity and low physical activity) affecting on cancer incidence, and also to estimate the relative weight of these shared components. Methods: In this study,...
